Is Apple Ram better than other Ram?

I'm going to buy myself the new IMac 27" Retina Display for Christmas. I want to increase the RAM and was wondering is Ram equal. What I mean, is Apple Ram better than other Ram. I can buy RAM at a lot less than having a Mac store install it for me. I am cluless on the subject and I'm looking for help.

You can easily purchase perfectly "good" ram from other sources. We usually recommend these two vendors:

- Other World Computing (OWC)
- Crucial.com

Apple ram "is" other ram. Apple doesn't make their own ram.
And +1 for OWC.

Although that's a true statement, memory modules used by Apple are "branded". When the genius at an Apple store runs diagnostics, he can tell you which modules are Apple's and which are third party. The same goes for an SSD. Apple uses SSDs from various manufacturers but again, they're "branded".
