Currently I am only a PC owner. I have never owned a Mac, but I would like to get a PowerBook G4 this holiday season. Is $2220 a good price for the following system specs?

1.5GHZ PowerPC G4, 15" Screen, 512MB PC2700 SDRAM, 80GB ULTRA ATA Drive, SuperDrive, 56K Modem, Built-In Bluetooth & AP EXTREME, 10/100/1000 Ethernet, DVI-Video Out, (2) USB 2.0, (1) FW400, (1) FW800

I found this system at http://www.us1camera.com and it seems to be the best price I could find anywhere. That price includes shipping. There is no tax. I plan on also buying the AppleCare plan and eventually upgrading to 2 GB of memory.

Looks like a good deal to me. The usual price for a 15"/1.5GHz is about $2500. The student discount from Apple right now is $2299. Amazon has a $150 mail-in rebate.

Incidentally, I see it at $2169. Which is insanely good.

Make sure you check the return policy and buy with a credit card, just in case.

i just ordered that same laptop but upgraded the video card to 128mb and downgraded the superdrive to just the combo drive and i got it for $1919

heres how if you are a student...

go here http://developer.apple.com/students/ and sign up as a student developer. they will make you fax in your divers license and a copy of you student schedule. then you'll have to pay $99 joining fee but you get so much with that. Not only did i save $380 on my powerbook but they also send copies of software to you for free over the year membership. you can only make this discounted purchase once in a lifetime but you'll save a good chunk of change.

my powerbook should be here next week

Did you order it from Apple? I want to upgrade my video card to 128MB as well, keep the Superdrive, but add the AppleCare plan. Do I have to actually develop anything for them?

I ordered my powermac from Apple's Educational site, saved over $2,000.

*Note: They do check, you must enter your university or school whatever, then some kind of student or reference number that identifies you. Although this number does not identify you by name etc. it's only like a serial number with difference variables.
