ipod av cable problems

Just got an iPod AV cable. I hooked it up to my TV. I hear sound and see video, but it is in black and white. How do I get it in color? It's in NTSC now. I tried it in PAL, but it still stayed in black and white and the video moved up and down. The color shows on my mom's iPod 5th generation video, but I have an iPod touch. Any advice on getting it working? It's the AV cable that has the blue, green, white, and red cables.

You are connecting to the TV and not through the video aren't you?
