Just a brief update on the new battery.
I went for a longish (34K, 20 mile) bike ride yesterday. The phone was at 100% when I left. I tracked the ride using the Apple Watch Workout app. This hands off Location Services tasks to the phone, so the iPhone's Bluetooth, GPS and cell phone radios are working pretty much full time. After 20K (an hour) I stopped for coffee. The phone was only down to 99%. That's very good.
After coffee I stopped a few times to take photos. After I finished the ride (two hours including time for coffee and photos), the phone was only down to 89%. Again, very good.
I only used the phone sporadically for the rest of the day. In the evening I streamed music to the phone over WiFi (Apple Music) and played it via a Bluetooth speaker for about two hours. When I put the phone on the charger, it was only down to 49%. I haven't seen that sort of battery life since the few months after I got the Apple replacement early last year.
Seems great now, but only time will tell how long the good battery life lasts. The Apple replacement crapped out after about ten months.
Thanks to all who encouraged me to get a new battery. It was the right thing to do.
One oddity: Over the last six or eight months I've trained myself to use the iPhone as little as possible to conserve battery. It will take some time to get used to the fact that I can now use the phone any time I want to.
It's nice to be taking photos again.
