iPad Screen Partially Stopped Responding

Hi

I've got an iPad mini about 1.5 years old, that has started to suffer from screen problems. When holding the device horizontally, I estimate that the top 5% of the screen is not responding i.e. the browser address bar in Safari.

I can sometimes get this portion of the screen working again, after pressing hard around the edges of the iPad (near the bezel.) However its far from an ideal solution, and doesn't work for long.

Has anyone experienced this? Do you reckon, I could fix it myself, or do I have to send it back to Apple?

Make an appointment with your local Apple store genius bar. The display panel on an iPad is very difficult to remove and replace. It sounds like yours is not responding correctly and could be the digitizer or the display itself. Let Apple sort it out. Is it still under warranty?

Thanks for that. I'm pretty sure the warranty has expired on the iPad. Would Apple still be the best people to fix it?

Yes, Apple is the best place to get it repaired. However, something you should know first:

Apple does not normally repair an iPad, iPod, iPod Touch, or an iPhone. What they will do is replace it with a refurbished unit and charge you accordingly. (Out of warranty) Of course if the unit is in warranty, they will replace it with a new one.
