I wondered if anyone has had this before with their iPad? My iPad had a message on it overnight that it was locked although it had not been touched from the night before. I have tried the restore in itunes and also reset to no avail. Do you think there is any chance of me getting this iPad to work again or has it died? It is not overused or full, there is hardly anything on it.
Thanks so much for any response
Gill

Welcome to our forums.

When you say locked, are you referring to when the iPad is requesting a passcode to unlock it? Otherwise I'm not sure what you mean by locked?

If the battery on your iPad has died or went flat there isn't anything you're going to be able to do in order to get it working again other than to replace the battery. An iPad 3 is a rather old iPad and no longer serviceable by Apple. However, an independent repair service may be able to replace the battery.

The battery is okay so we can exclude problems with that.

What kind of message is iTunes giving you when you try to do a reset or restore?

Also, you might want to try a DFU mode restore. Follow the directions below from ifixit.com:
