My macbook has been randomly losing access to the internet. Network preferences says it's connected, but I can not use the internet through any program on wifi or ethernet. I can still access my wifi with my iphone, so I know it is not my modem or router. If I restart my computer, things run normally again for a while, but eventually I lose connection again.

Anyone have an idea what is going on?

I'm using a 2008 Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.5. Like I said, I cannot access the internet through any program (EG: Chrome, Safari, Spotify, Itunes). I go in to my network preferences and it says that I am connected to wifi and have a signal. I switched to my ethernet cable straight from the modem and my network preferences said that I was connected. Still I could not access the internet through any application. My Iphone 5s and my wife's Iphone 4s could log on to our wifi without an issue while the macbook could not.

When I restart my Mac Book Pro, the internet works on every app again. Typically once a day while I'm surfing the internet I can no longer access the web through any application. I restart the computer and it works again for a while. The problem just repeats itself.

Are there any other specific things you would need to know?

Thanks for posting back your specs. It sounds like you may be experiencing interference from somewhere. Generally, interference can be from other networks nearby, a wireless phone, and other things that operate in the same frequency spectrum. Try going into your router and change channels. Also make sure you're using WPA2 for security encryption.

I experienced a similar problem recently on my 2011 MBP (OS X 10.9.5) and solved it by going into network preferences and deleting the wifi and ethernet connections, applying the changes and then adding them in again. Sounds daft, but it worked for me.
