Don't know if anyone can help - I've got a semi-dead Mac Mini Core Solo on my hands. This was delivered to us dead about 2 years ago so I reckon it's pretty screwed. It's not under warranty so I've dismantled it.

I'm testing with a dell usb keyboard and dell 20" TFT via DB15 adaptor (not DVI).

1. It was dead - completely. Power light comes on but no disk activity or video output at all.

2. I dismantled it, removed all connectors and the black plastic subassembly with the disk and cdrw on it. I removed the daughter board for the SATA and audio brige board as well. I left one stick of RAM in. Now it boots to the grey screen with a folder with a question mark on it.

3. I put the other stick of RAM back. It boots again.

4. Added daughter board. No display again.

5. removed it again. Grey screen.

6. Turned off and left it 20 mins (to do some work). Now it wont even start up again - no video output.

7. Replacing / changing the button cell (nicking the one from the remote) makes no difference.

Are there any known problems which may cause this? seems pretty odd to me. It's not consistent with removing any part. It seems to die intermittently.

I'd like to ressurect this machine so I can use it but it's not looking hopeful.
