I bought a 15" core duo 2.53 mbp before the launch of the new macbooks. i can still trade in my 'old' macbook for an i5. i can only afford the 2.4GHz. i am a student. i run a lot of applications at the same time and rarely do stuff with photos/videos.
is it worth it to upgrade? what is the difference?

Ofcourse you would benefit with the i5. Buts it's the question of - do you really need it? Is the performance of your current mac not good enough for what you are doing? If it's affecting your work, I think you should upgrade.. But as you said, you are a student so you might not want to splash out much cash. But I'm pretty sure if you just got your C2D MBP and want the i5 MBP, I don't think it will cost you any extra. Maybe jut the shipping.

Hope it works out for you mate! :)

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
If they will let you trade it, I wouldn't be wasting any time in doing so!

Thanks, benparko.

6string, is there a reason why you wouldn't waste time?

I understand the i5 doesn't make much difference unless you are running things like aperture or final cut. i don't run those programs.

do you think they will start making more programs that run more efficiently on the i5?? also, is the greater hard drive, the L3 cache, and the better graphics card make a difference in now or in the future? This will probably be my last laptop. thanks :)

I think at the end of the day, if you can get something upgraded for free, you might as take it even if you won't use it's extra features. Always take the bet if it's free to upgrde. :)

But yes I also belies that more programs will be built to benefit the power of the iSeries processors. Just as games are built to work with the latest GPUs.

Let us know what decision you make :)

Is the greater hard drive, the L3 cache, and the better graphics card make a difference in now or in the future? Now and in the future.
This will probably be my last laptop! All the more reason to go for the trade in for the upgrade.
