I recently purchased Adobe Photoshop CS4 student / teacher version and I am trying to get the serial #. The program says to login to www.adobe.studentlicensing.com and enter the coupon code provided with the program. When I enter the code it says it is not valid. I previously had CS4 ( none student version) on my computer but the company it was licensed through closed so my program license expired. It was suggested that I remove all Adobe CS4 from my computer before loading the new one. Nothing works so far. I am not sure if I have removed all previous CS4 but I think so. I have called the seller of the new program and they cannot figure it out. Please can someone help. I am legitimately a student.

You probably need to get in touch with Adobe support. Photoshop installs a lot of files and also encrypts the serial number of its program where it's not user accessible. I suspect the reason the Student version will not install is that it's "seeing" the expired license of the previous version.

I would say that if the seller of CS4 cannot help you…then you better return it to the seller ASAP! Especially (as chscag mentioned)…if the license has expired (maybe the seller knew this).

Sounds to me that you could of bought a dodgy copy. As far as I am aware, the Student Versions, are licensed to a single person, and could well be a single computer, and if the seller didn't de-authorise the copy you have, this also could be a reason why you can't activate the program. As mentioned above, call Adobe Help and you can start the process off here Adobe Help ~ Contact

I am really confused. CS4 is an older version. CS6 is the last standalone install. The new Creative Cloud versions are a monthly subscription now. Why CS4? There are some really cool stuff that was added to Photoshop when CS5 & CS6 came out.

Anyway, the way I understand what you are doing is entering a code on the program DVD in order to get a product license. The site says it is invalid. Correct? If so then Adobe support should be able to tell you if the code on the DVD has been used or why it isn't valid.

I hope you can get your money back, because you got scammed. Adobe is very unlikely to help, as you've bought a version they discontinued four years ago. What you *should* have done is signed up for Adobe's CC suite at the student/teacher prices (presuming you actually qualify).
