I'm attempting to hook my Macbook Pro up to Samung's SyncMaster 206bw via a simple DVI to DVI cable. A few problems occur from their. Here's the breakdown.

OS X recognizes the monitor, but it takes awhile for the monitor to pick up the signal. From their the picture is grainy, as well off-center. Displays the "incompatible mode" warning, having me seek to adjust the resolution and refresh rate.

The problem from their is, my resolution is correct in OS X (1680x1050 for the Samsung), and refresh rate is set to the only available setting (60hz).

I've exhausted my resources for solving this on my own, anyone have an idea?

Does the monitor auto-config when it displays the signal? On a lot of monitors, it will throw up the picture and you'll see it shift a few times. It might also show an overlaying message that says "auto configuration" or something like that. If not, you may need to force it through the monitor's menus.

Have you contacted Apple and Samsung? I'd really like to know this, as I'm planning on getting the exact same setup.

It sounds as though you have a bad monitor...

I have the exact same one as had absolutely no trouble connecting everything to my Macbook.
Plugged it in and the picture was perfect.

Negative. Works fine on my desktop, and another laptop.

Could you take a picture of the screen on the monitor?

Did you force the monitor to auto-config, like I mentioned previously?

Yeah, try selecting 'picture reset' and see if that will clear the picture up.
