Hi,
I'm new to iMovie and on my mac there are multiple user accounts, I am wondering if there is any way to use the videos stored in one account in iMovie without importing them and copying them to another space on the hard-drive thus taking up double the space?

Thanks

Hi there mate!

Of course that's possible! Let me tell you how. . .

Firstly, its been a long time since I've used iMovie, because I'm using the Pro software now, like Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Shake, so forgive me if I get any of this wrong.

1. Open up the account which contains the original video files.
2. Send them to the Shared Folder (or as you want to free up space, just
make a shortcut to them and place them in the Shared folder.)
3. Open up iMovie in your account, open up the Shared Folder, and drag the
movie contents into the iMovie timeline.

Alternatively, if you are an Administrator, you can just open up

Macintosh HD/Users/(The account with those video files)/(wherever
those video files are stored)

And select each clip and press cmd+I and gain the access permissions to view and copy those files, and then just drag them straight into the iMovie Timeline.

The second option is a bit more complex, I'd stick with the first one if I were you!

Hope this helped!

Regards.

Hi i tried both of the above methods and they both imported the files but the problem i have is that i don't want the files to be copied to another space on my account, which still happens, I want to be able to use the files in the other account without copying to mine.

Any more ideas?
