To answer the above questions: Before the problem started happening, all my files that were not psd. were set to open in Preview. I was aware beforehand about the kind of program that Preview is, and I'm also aware that files with no extant are a different thing, but even those would always open in Preview. I honestly can't remember ever having to do much work in setting up Preview to open these different files, even when I first got my computer in 2010. The browser I am dragging the image files from is either Safari or Firefox, and Firefox is always the one that causes the files to change from opening in Preview to opening in Photoshop. When I am dragging pictures over from Safari, they at first appear very briefly as Preview icons before loading as thumbnails of their respective image. The same used to be for Firefox, and it used to be for every png, jpeg, tiff, and bmp file that I dragged and dropped onto my desktop. However, now when I drag files over from Firefox, they at first appear briefly as these ugly icons with rectangle shapes with the file type name ("PNG") on them over a white sheet of paper before loading as the thumbnail. This problem never occurred with my older version of Firefox, only with this new version. The extent of the files I drag-and-drop is either png, jpeg, or gif. Rarely anything else. I don't have rawr files on my computer. I have opened up another thread with this same issue over at Apple.com to see if this might be an issue with my older computer. Over there, a user suggested that I check for the problem in both another account and in Safe Mode. I did both and the problem actually occurs in both, even in Safe Mode. I have relayed this information to them as well and am awaiting a response. (And I'm sorry about the EtreChecks, but I don't know any other way to show progress/hidden issues within my computer as I am progressing. Also, the backups that you see in the EtreCheck are old drives I don't use; I have a third drive that I use which is up to date.) If I forgot to mention anything, feel free to let me know.
