iMac's RAM

I'm to buy a brand new iMac,
about their RAM, (DDR2 SDRAM),
is it possible to get this RAM cheaper ? In common computer stores ? Or is it required to have Apple RAM ?

Please answer only if you tested it or have heard about that. Don't consider me as a betrayer but as a student.
