My iMac ran into a similar situation after upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Everything is soo slow and unresponsive. The beachball appears everywhere. Just moving the mouse across the menu bar from 'File' to 'Help' will result in a spinning beach ball and programs take ages to start: Garageband takes over 3 min. So after some research, the cause of this is supposed to be defragmentation. Steps I have taken: -upgraded tiger to SL via Mac Box SL DVD -created a Time Machine backup from SL onto an external harddrive -opened the SL DVD and deleted the Mac harddrive, then created a new partiton (HFS extended, journaled) -restored the Time Machine backup Now, the thing is, SnowLeopard still runs as slow as before restoring the TimeMachine backup. With tiger, the iMac (C2D 2.4GHz, 2 GB Ram) ran fast and the only reason I upgraded was, because the iPad requires iTunes 10, which only works with Leopard and SnowLeopard. So right now, the iPad is activated and synced, but the Mac is unusable and I am close to just torch that piece of ... Are there other options to make SL run at a normal speed? Any help is appreciated.
