We have been thinking of replacing our mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13 for a while now and replacing it with another MacBook. Just reciently I have been thinking along the lines of an Ipad? Either an Air or 11" Pro.

My question is, last year we replaced our late 2009 iMac 21 ½ (still working fine) with a new M1 iMac 24. It comes with the Magic keyboard 2. When the 21 ½ finally gets retired I will connect the USB keyboard on to the M1 machine, it has the full layout with the numeric pad, and am wondering of the Magic keyboard will work with the iPod?

As the keyboard doesn't have a track pad I was also wondering if our Magic trackpad 1 will work with the iPad. Along with that we also have 2 Magic meeces, or mice to you. One the 1 and the other the 2. Will either of these work with the iPad? We seem to have quite a collection of these things!

Sorry for all of the questions.

Thank you, that's good news! I will carry on and see just what will suit us.

I also have a couple of Crucial external SSD that I am using on our new M1 iMac, is it possible to plug those in to the iPad?

The 2nd generation of "Magic" devices will work, but not 1st generation.

Sorry I made a mistake, ferrarr is right. I just tried a 1st generation keyboard on an iPad Pro and doesn’t work. Second gen mouse and keyboard works perfect,

Whether an external drive can be used with an iPad depends in part upon the model in question. Generally you attach the drive to the iPad's charging and access the files via the Files app or some other apps that support this feature.

Here's Apple's take on this matter Connect external storage devices to iPad

You might find this useful as well You can now use an external drive with your iPhone or iPad – here's how
