IMac fast after reboot & then slow as molasses

Older IMac is fast after reboot but slows to a frustrating crawl after a little use.

OSX likes 20% free on the boot hard drive, 10% minimum.

If you don't have that start cleaning off files onto another external drive.

You haven't given any details as to model or what version of OSX you are using.

Installing as much RAM as it will take is the next improvement.

How old, what operating system, how much memory and how much free space on the hard drive? Running any antivirus software? Running Mackeeper, ClanMyMac etc? All vitally important.

Wow 2GB of memory is pretty small considering your iMac can handle 2x4GB modules for 8GB. PWC and Crucial recommended. Uninstall CleanMyMac pronto. Crapware.
