Newbie here. I need to get rid of an iMac. How do I remove the hard drive, could the buyer get a new one, and how much could I sell this for?

PowerpcG3
Machine speed 500mhz
built in memory 128

OS 9.0.4

I want to remove all info that's on it. Removing the hard drive would do that?

Thanks in advance! :dummy:

I've searched Google extensively and didn't find anything re: removing a hard drive. I'm sure it's on Apple's site, I just don't have time to search for it. Then again, you could just reformat it with your original SSW restore discs-that would erase everything on the hard drive and reinstall the original OS.
The buyer could certainly install a hard drive if they wanted to.
You could probably get $250-$300 (that's around what they're selling on eBay right now).

Yeah, I'd suggest just doing a clean install.. That will write zeroes to the drive, and then re-install the os

Thanks! In the mean time, got another suggestion, and am currently running shredit. I believe zeroing is not good enough for security (that's what I understood from other people - I'm not at all sure). Anyway I'm running this thing from mireth.com...but it's SO slow...I don't think I'll be able to get it done in time!!!
