Hi I recently purchased a 27" C2D 4gb ram imac, I was using it about 4 hours Quark X Press, then I ran Windows XP to play Street Fighter 4 with my brother, after an hour of playing I have put my hand on the back (CPU), the bottom was just fine (cold) but when I shifted my hand to the top of the monitor it was very hot (pretty the same when you have a hot cup of coffe and you touch the glass (obviously, the out side). Is it normal? I had a problem with my previous imac G5 PPC in which the capacitors were inflated, causing its decease. Should I keep an eye to it? :(

I just recently bought the same iMac about two days ago and couldn't be happier with it. I have yet to see it heat up as much as what you just mentioned, but it isn't the first time I've heard of this issue. As for being normal, I am not sure but will keep my eye open for other posts like this.

No, this is perfectly normal.

The iMac uses convection cooling to help minimise fan noise. The principle of heat rising. Cool air is drawn in from the bottom, passes over the hot components absorbing heat, and exist out the slot near the top. Quite ingenious, but after heavy use that top slot is likely to get quite warm.

Nothing to worry about.

A lot of people worry about temperature with their computers, and there really is nothing to worry about. Your computer's hardware is constantly monitoring temperatures, and if anything is abnormally hot, it will shut itself down long before any hardware damage can occur.
Game all you want, and don't ever worry about it getting to hot. In other words, enjoy your sweet computer!!! :)

The iStat Pro widget can help you watch the temps. This is more of a peace-of-mind thing, but you'd be able to see the temps and be put at ease.
