Hi I have an iMac 2011 27 inch. I'm still using my original 1TB hard drive in the original bay and i successfully replaced the DVD drive with a harddrive-caddy. In the caddy i placed a 1TB Samsung SSD drive. After i did this, i realized that the SATA port for the SSD drive runs only on 3GB/SATA II.

1. is there a way for me to change/configure the DVD's SATA port speed to 3Gig so that i can run my SSD on 6GB speed without having to open the iMac again?
2. If the answer to number 1 is no can i use the SATA cable being used for the SATAII/optical drive for the third and unused SATA port on the mob which i understand really runs on SATA III speed? I don't want to buy another cable.

TIA

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Even worse maybe, if you go into Apple System Profiler > SATA?SATA Express and select the Optiac DVD Rewriter, you will see whilst it is SATA II 3Gb/ps, the negotitated speed is actually SATA or 1.5Gb/ps. Think your SSD will only get the 3Gb/ps speed. Others with more expertise will answer, but I would suggest no, unless you can fit a power take off from the current hard drive SATA II connectors and run to the SSD.
