I'm In Big Trouble (cannot Burn Anything)

Hi, there...

I have an eMac and I'm in big trouble... I can't burn CD's or DVD's (although I can read them...) When I insert a blank CD or DVD, everything seems fine: the files are copied, then burned... But when verification begins, the CD is spit out, with a message: Error Code 6 (overflow). I ran the Hardware Test and everything seems OK. Then I ran Norton Disk Doctor and First Aid. First Aid reported missing threads: Missing thread record (and 4 different ID's), as well as 3 Invalid volume directory counts. I borrowed an external 3rd Party CD Reader/Writer (Que!USB) to try to burn my files there, I plugged it on the USB Bus 0, which is recognized on the device/volumes, but when I run the Adaptec Toaster (on Classic) it says I don't have a writer... I've read some suggestions for this problem in other forums (using 650 MB discs instead of 700 MB discs, and trying with different burning speeds) I couldn't find any 650 MB at any local computer store and changing speeds doesn't work either... HHEEEEELLLLP!  :(

Have you tried using cd with a slower speed? I don't know a lot about this stuff but I had a similar problem and I bought some very slow speed cds and everything worked fine.

I'm sorry if that doesn't work but it's all I have to offer you. I'm sure some of the ithers will help you this evening. It's amzing what they know and how fast they reply. This is a really great forum. Just wait- you'll see.

Gee, thanks for your reply, Octohunter... I did try it and didn't work either... But it looks like I finally solved the problem... In my desperation, I surfed in other forums and found that someone else had had a similar problem and fixed it by using a CD/DVD Lens Cleaner... IT WORKED!

Anyways, I still have problems with my missing volume threads and invalid directory counts... I think I'm going to reinstall everything just in case... Or... Does anybody know how to fix missing thread records and invalid volume directory counts?

if you are running OS X, then Norton Disk Doctor will do yo umore harm than good. If you are running OS 9 the Norton is okay. If you are running OS X, then disk warrior is better for resolving disk problems.
