Ignorant Newbie needs help

I am trying to find how to link my Mac to the internet in such a way as as to use an anonymous proxy. I am using an iMac operating MacOSX10.2 and Safari. I link directly to my ISP provider via broadband, but how do I then go via a proxy so as to hide my original ISP address.

Please reply at idiot's guide level ;)
