ibook problem

Hi All

Ive just been copying cd's on my new ibook and the screen went blank. I have tried pressing the on button but nothing happens. The battery had 70% charge left but I plugged the adapter into it and still nothing. There is a little light that keeps gradually getting brighter then darker, next to the button to open the ibook up.

Im not sure what the problem is or how to get it back on

Anyone have any ideas???

Sounds like your ibook may be asleep. Try holding down the power button for a second. You may have accidntly put it to sleep. The glowing light on the front is the sleep light.

Just hit the spacebar to wake it up, or move your fingers around the trackpad.

Try unplugging it, and taking out the battery. Leave it off like this for at least one full minute. Then, put the battery back in, plug it back in and then start it back up again.

This has happened to me before. Have you tried Ctrl+Apple+Power? If that doesn't work, you might try holding down the power button for a few seconds until you hear the soft click of the hard drive shutting down -- this means your computer has been shut down. Then press the power button again until you hear the startup sound.

Hope this helps.

Once it comes back up, check the thread at the top of this forum called "The iBook G4 “instant fixes” thread" and try resetting the power management units.

Which button is the "option" button?

I have held down the power button but i dont hear the soft clicking noise. I have no sounds or anything visual happening to it at all.

Ummm... the one that says "Option" on it? :)

If it's a G4 iBook, it's on the bottom row, third key from the left, right next to the left Apple key, just underneath the Z key.

Good luck!

I feel silly enough as it is :)

Do you think this is a serious problem as its not coming on at all?

I would think that if my brand new laptop stopped coming on, that it would be fairly serious...hehe:black:

If you have tried all the suggestions so far, and it still isn't coming on, you should call Apple ASAP.

Option or Alt Key

If it's a G4 iBook, it's on the bottom row, third key from the left, right next to the left Apple key, just underneath the Z key.
And for those, like me, who don't have any key that is marked "Opt" "Option", or anything similar, it is still the key on the bottom row, third from the left, but is marked "Alt". Greg

ya, this happened to me on my iBook G3, and the only thing i could do was hold down the power button for like *10 seconds* and restart the computer. also, why dont you try to unplug the computer and take out the battery, then put it back in, and try rebooting the computer. thanks.
