ibook cd drive

I have an ibook 700 with a cd drive on the right hand side of unit, when I pop in a cd with data it works fine but when I pop in a blank cd it spits it out after a bit. I went in to the prefs and changed it to when putting in a cd ask me what to do but it doest ask just spits. Any help from this august body would be appreciated.

Superdrive can handle only a couple of CD/DVD formats. Make sure the inserted CD is supported by your SD.

gee I thought a blank cd was a blank cd, are there blank cds with differnt formats?
