I've been using Apple Mail for our email accounts for years now and have always had trouble with it randomly losing access and having other issues. I have comcast and gmail accounts
and I can never have both accounts working properly at once in Mail.

I'd like to try another email app that is MAC friendly and stable. Does anyone have any suggestions? favorites?

Thx,
Rob

I've used Thunderbird for some years. Can't remember why I changed but Apple Mail must have upset me in some way.

According to this page there is a Mac version. Clicking the download link brings you to the App Store preview page. It's a 64 bit app and requires 10.11 or higher.

I'd sure hope it works better than their video and it's awful "music" sound at that site. That was enough to put me off even checking it out any further!!! :(

I've been using it for about 2 months now, switched from Apple Mail and it is quite good. Works well with my GMail, iCloud and Outlook accounts..

Good to know thanks Ashwin.

I think I'd want to do a bit more checking before I used it after reading this:

Just out of curiosity what do you prefer about it compared to Apple Mail?

The UI is very intuitive and the interface is easy to use. I like the Smart Inbox that combines the Inbox from all of my accounts and shows it nicely..

Is it just me but why do we still not have anything as good or even close to the old Eudora and Eudora Pro versions email client even though several attempts were made, and some even with Steve Dormer's help.

So how did he and his MIT colleagues get it so right so many years ago, but I will admit that it was starting to show some age and need of updating at the end.

Oh well… we try and manage… :[

Looks like it has mixed reviews in Mac App Store. I noticed that one of the complaints is that it doesn't work with private servers or business servers. In other words, it works with gmail, yahoo, hotmail, outlook, etc. but not private domain or business private servers.

However, you can't beat free.

I'd sure question that chscag and would suggest it wouldn't be worth anything if it doesn't darn well work with what one might need. But maybe that's why it IS free!!!

I think that Mail is supremely stable. I strongly suspect that any problems that you are experiencing are due to your ISP, or lack of support from your ISP. (I have Comcast too, and they suck. It's just that they suck less than the other local alternatives.)

That said, there are, by my count, over 30 alternative e-mail programs available for the Macintosh. I can give you the entire list if you like.

However, these have been especially popular lately:

I have been using AirMail for three years now, now up to AirMail 3. Apart from the fact that unlike Apple Mail it actually works as intended with SpamSieve the best spam filtering application available in my opinion. It has a free iOS version and despite it's OSX price is excellent value.
Unlike others it does not aim to have you empty your inbox or send group messages via social media links.
It is a no fuss, functional email client with all of the professional features you would expect from a no gimmicks, top quality product.
I have 5 email accounts, some net based, others from popular providers like gMail and Live. It happily copes with them all along despite 2 step verification and app specific passwords. While my wife continues to persevere with Apple Mail, it's repeated requests to re enter passwords and accounts going offline for no apparent reason which can only be fixed by restarting the app I continue to sail along.
I can honestly say I have not had a problem with this app in the three years I have been using it.

Is that the issue? I've recently switched to an iCloud address, and have been using Mail for the first time. It works just fine.

Tried that back in the day. With it's multiple windows and resultant screen clutter, I thought it stunk. Maybe I tried too soon, before it was refined. (??)

In my opinion, the only other mail client worth using beside Apple Mail is Thunderbird. It's easy to use, free, and includes an NNTP News Reader (for you folks who know what that is). My only complaint about Thunderbird is that it's kept up in development by Mozilla.

I get the same result in Mail by using the Classic layout in Mail (Mail/Preferences/Viewing and check "Use Classic Layout"). I then get the sidebar showing Inbox, with all my account inboxed indented below, Sent with all my sent accounts indented below, etc. And if I just highlight the "Inbox" line, I see ALL my inbox items, with column showing what Mailbox each item is in. If I select that Mailbox, that column disappears. I find that very, very easy to use.

EDIT: I just tried with the "Use Classic Layout" unchecked, and the result is that I can still have the same sidebar, and in the preview pane when I select the upper level Inbox, the sub-folder is shown just below the time of receipt for the mail.

+1 !!! I was going to mention the similar thing and couldn't figure out why the OP didn't have that feature.

I can't stand their "new and improved" (choke, gag!!) Mail.app layout. And a pity the iOS Mail uses the same layout.

Unfortunately Apple dropped parts of the email related messages threaded-highlighting from working properly after Mavericks, I think it last worked properly. I never really used Yosemite much.

Some other features were dropped that also bugged me but I seem to have either forgotten them or just repressed the fact, so I continue using Mavericks. It works well there for my preferred use.
