Indeed. And you think this is enough information for us to provide help?

We need more information to even come close to an answer. What exactly happens when you try to complete the installation? What programs have you tried to install? How much free space is available on the hard drive?

i can not get programs to run on mac os 9

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums.

As you can see, we aren't sitting next to you so have no idea what Mac (Desktop, Laptop etc) and whether you are new to Macs. Is this your first foray into Macintosh devices - using the term "programs" suggests that possibility. Macs run applications.

So start afresh and give us as much detail as possible including which application(s) you are trying to install or run, please. :)

Enjoying the discussion but predates my switch to Apple in 2010-12 - for those not familiar w/ the legacy Apple OS, a brief summary below (and more at the LINK) - hope that some 'historic' suggestions will aid the OP - Dave :)
Mac OS 9 is the ninth and final major release of Apple'sclassic Mac OS operating system, which was succeeded by Mac OS X 10.0 in 2001, starting the Mac OS X family of operating systems. Introduced on October 23, 1999......Apple discontinued development of Mac OS 9 in late 2001, transitioning all future development to Mac OS X......At the 2002 Worldwide Developers Conference, Steve Jobs began his keynote address by staging a mock funeral for OS 9. IF (and I don't know as you haven't said) these are apps written for OS X then by and large they won't run in OS9.

Brief background: when Apple brought in OS X, the new system was Unix based unlike what went before. Apple apps in 2001 - 2004 were written to cope with both systems and were called 'Carbon' in that they could run in Classic Mac (OS9 and OS8 mainly) and in OS X. When Apple finally abandoned Classic they switched over to apps which would only run in OS X - 'Cocoa'.

3rd party apps could be run (usually..) by launching them in Classic mode within OS X, but from Intel Macs (2006) or any Mac running Leopard (2007) onwards that was no longer an option.

But yes, you should tell us
- what Mac you're using
- which apps you're trying to run .

We're in limbo because we've not heard back from the OP yet.

Almost all of the feedback from our members has concerned itself with the comments like those made by @MacBiter and others.

We have to wait till we get answers.

It must be a pretty ancient Mac unless the OP is using an emulation tool such as SheepShaver. But until the OP responds, who knows?

We have to wait till we get answers.

And unfortunately, that might be quite a long time if one of the applications that's not working is their Email client application.

It would be interesting to know what their actual situation is and what Mac model and what version of Mac Operating System they might be using we need to know in order to help them with their problem.

Hopefully, as a brand new Mac-forums member, they didn't take some of the reply comments as a sarcastic reply.

While all the attention to this thread is appreciated, let's wait for the OP to come back with more info and hope that it isn't a spammer.

The only one which runs "out of the box" is Chubby Bunny (OS 9.0.4) - so that MIGHT be the one? But as you say, until they respond, who knows...

Hmmm... and OT??? I'm just curious but I was wondering how you knew that Chubby Bunny was one of the applications involved as I hadn't seen it mentioned previously in this thread or am I not receiving or being able to read some post that might be missing?

I must admit that the thread subject and the OP's opening problems statement certainly get one's attention. 😉

Sheepshaver is not an app for the faint-hearted - it takes a lot of setting up, including getting hold of a virtual ROM that will work with the emulator; then going through all the required settings and preferences, etc.

Chubby Bunny is an already set up variant of Sheepshaver that runs OS 9.0.4. It doesn't require anything: after downloading it can be launched straight away. However, it can't be adapted to an individual user's requirements, having already been set up - you need to use it 'as is'.

I set up a version of Sheepshaver that runs OS 8.6. I actually find it more stable than 9.0.4, but that may just be my setup .

Okay, but I have no idea what your comments in this thread have to do with the original OP's post and problem.

I was hoping they would reply with additional information so the members here can help them with their problems.

I was replying to Alan_B who was wondering about the OP's setup.

Cool, that's long enough waiting and guessing.
