hp 1610 printer scanner won't work

A new iMac (2010 refurb) won't recognize my HP 1610, after using several web downloads from HP, and using the original HP software CD for Mac OS-X. I'm running OSX 10.6.8, using a USB connection, and this same printer/scanner was in use for over two years on a much older iMac. Any help appreciated. Bob

Your Mac's Specs
2.66ghz Intel Core i7 8GB 1067 MHz
have you tried installing it by going to system prefrences and then print/scan to see if you can add it that way?

hp printer/scanner

I gave up, trashed the HP (it was years old, anyway) and got an Epson which works fine right out of the box. Thanks for your response. Bob
