Hello,

I have just downloaded the OS X Yosemite Public Beta, and I'm trying to figure out how to make calls/texts from the mac itself. Do I need to turn something on? I have tried to find something but can't figure it out. When I try to call someone, it appears with "Calling (name) on your iPhone" but it ends up saying 'Call Failed'.

Thanks,

-Daniel

How to make full use of your iPhone and Yosemite

Here is how i have mine setup.

1 x iPhone 5 running iOS8
1 x Macbook Pro Running OS Yosemite Beta 3
1 x Apple Time Capsule 3Tb

Ok thats the hardware sorted.

Make sure your iPhone and Macbook are connected via a 5Ghz wireless network it may also work on a normal home network.

Then to make a call use FaceTime and click audio not video!
Simple as that, I've been using it all day so far no glitches

Now as for Texting that not featured in beta3 not until official release in October.

re

This all started for me this morning ........

i was using my iPad mini when all of a sudden my iPhone Rang and so did my iPad the same person ringing me strange i thought on the iPad screen i said call via iPhone.

I straight away run down the stairs and thought let see what the MacBook pro does and well it did the same but more clearer.

Now as for your problem I'm quite sure whats going on there .....

Are you on Build Beta 3 ?

Because i know for sure it wasn't available for previous builds

Cheers

Good Luck

FaceTime calling with audio only is not a feature of Yosemite, it was introduced in Mavericks IIRC. Getting a phone call that originates on the iPhone and is handed off to the Mac -- now that's a feature that is exclusive to Yosemite.
