Hi everyone, new to this forum, but have used macs since '84. My Mac Plus is sitting on the shelf, but I still use my Performa 475 to write code and program chips.

I just upgraded the operating system on my iMac from 9.2.2 to OS10.4.

I'm getting an annoying message every fifteen minutes, asking if I want to remain connected.

Where to go to change this setting?

Also, my internal 12.7GB hard drive is nearly full, so I've been trashing files. I went to Fry's and picked up a Maxtor OT III drive. I thought I could use it as if it were a fresh internal drive, but live chat with them says no, that I need a new internal drive.

So, what to do with a 500 GB backup drive? Did I waste $200?

Next question, I play pool, and had the idea to make a forehead cam, to show pool from the player's perspective. I looked at small camcorders while at Fry's, and ended up with a Casio Exilim Z75, and added a 2GB memory card.

Shot a couple five minute clips the other night. They play good on the camera, but the files are .avi format, so I googled and found MPEG Streamclip:

The files are about 100MB each. I set the quality to 25% and it takes a couple hours to convert. I upload them to my site, takes another couple hours. Then, they don't play right away. Is this normal?

Thanks

Found out how to stay connected and get rid of that stupid warning on another forum. Lost the link, but here's what to do:

Open System Preferences, choose Network
Then open the drop down menu next to "Show", select "Built-in Ethernet".

Click PPPoE, then click PPPoE options, and a new window opens up, allowing you to configure your sessions.

It sounds like you have an original Imac that is coloured with the standard 13GB drive. I had the DV 400 version with that 13gb drive. First is get that drive upgraded to the largest possible - 120 gb.

Keep the external drive - it is correct to store things on it. Hopefully it has a firewire connection and you should use it as your video source not your internal.
