Have you resolved it? I've got the same issue and it first showed up on my Chrome at work, then shortly thereafter appeared on my Mac. I did the things that @gsahli pointed to in the included link, I solved the Windows one at work, something like the link. But most did nothing, until I uninstalled Chrome and re-installed it. I've done as much as you did, but have not yet done a uninstall - reinstall yet, plan to do this tomorrow. I know you said that Chrome is your default browser, and the uninstall will kill off your history and cookies, but I would consider it worth it to get rid of those two tabs (it doesn't stop at two, it adds two at a time), and you apparently did just that, so try the uninstall and put it back. Chrome used to be my primary browser, but I've since switched back to Safari. I frequent some sites that require Silverlight, but Silverlight doesn't support 32bit browsers, and Google has not made Chrome 64bit, at least on the Mac. After a while, both Firefox and Safari get what Chrome has, in terms of functionality, sometimes quite a while. I just wish Google would get Chrome to 64bit.
