I have a Windows XP and OS X computers, and would like to install one 1TB external HD. I am thinking of WD My Book Home Edition with eSATA/Firewire400/USB2 ports. I would like to use this HD plugged into my OS X but also have it shared to my Windows computer.

How best to achieve this? Are there any other alternatives?

Way... way too many specs to list.
Sure, share it under System Preferences > Sharing.

Unless you're talking moving it back and forth between the two.. in which case they come formatted as FAT32 anyway.

FAT32 is writable by pretty much everything out there these days :)

The downside to FAT32 is that I cannot store any file greater then 4GB. In this day and age of media files this limit is restrictive.
