Hi all, I have a 2012 Mac Mini server (i5) and I have 10.9 Mavericks in it with the server app installed.

I use it primarily for Plex Media server but I want to utilise the server to its fullest.

I have setup a VPN server on it but that pretty much all I've done. I also have a separate NAS box for folders.

What do you use yours for? What is good to do/setup? This is a home server. Router handle DHCP currently.

Im thinking of way to max it and make it worthy of the funds previously spent for it.

Thanks,

I use mine as the place where my other devices backup. I expect that most of the time you have a server to provide more secure storage, raid protection, backup. If you do have multiple devices and platforms on your network, a server can be that single point of connection. Most such services are for a local network; however, you can also provide hosting services for your web page, flp services for others outside your network, and other tasks. you can also use the server app to provide some graphic and log information; although, most of that is available from within the CLInterface.

I'm not sure what the Apple server app cost; most Linux systems include the services as part of their distribution.

Most of what you spent ".. worthy of the funds previously spent for it." probably were for the hardware such as duplicate hard drive, faster processor and additional memory.
