Hello people,

i have a 2009 iMac 27 inch where the hard drive died. Unfortunately, i haven't kept the discs it came with and need now to make my own. Is there any way to do that? I have a Macbook Air and Macbook Pro available, both are around 2013 model. And i have a SuperDrive

TIA

Equally useful, I think, will be this page: How To Download Old Mac OS X & macOS: Mojave, El Capitan, Sierra, & More - Macworld UK
It provides instructions for all of the versions you're likely to want.

In addition to this, you'll need to make a bootable installer from one of these downloads. Diskmaker X will get the job done.

One alternative? Connect the iMac to the MacBook Pro using Target Disk Mode. Run the installer from the MacBook Pro.

do Apple still sell Snow Leopard on DVD? If not then getting one from ebay or something similar would be the easiest way to get an OS on your MBP.

Which Mac OS X versions are running on your other Macs? Which versions of Mac OS X/OS X/macOS are available to you in your Mac App Store > Purchased section?

Thanks for the reply. The issue is that this old iMac's don't actually support internet recovery. It has to be done by local media

In this case you can purchase a macOS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) install disk for $19.99...then upgrade to a newer macOS version:

Are you sure about this? My daughter iMac 27 late 2009 have internet recovery in MacOS High Sierra

The easy way to install is: make a new install on external ssd with the macbook and then install that disc on your iMac.

The reason why no one else provided links like this...is because the website you linked to is not a legit site. Approximately 50% of the macOS X versions "offered" on that site were originally macOS versions that users needed to pay for.

MacOS 10.7, and 10.8 are still for sale at Apple.com.

Please don't post these sort of links!

Thanks,
