Have an old iBook running v10.3.5 and wanted to do a reinstall. How would I do this just using a dmg file? Thanks.

Where did you download the ".dmg" file from?

Just asking the OP a simple question to further the conversation...I didn't want to jump to any incorrect conclusions.;)

You reinstall using the disk that you purchased.

Assuming you have made a dmg of your original disk - which i have done with mine as it is quicker than having to do the install off the disk and heaps of updates - then restoring can be done in the same app you use to make the dmg

For future reference, it would be a better idea to make a "copy" of your install cd, or create an ".iso" image, so you can burn a "copy" of your original OSX. An .iso is your best bet.
