I have a pdf file that is locked. is their a way to unlock it? id like to be able to copy text from it and paste to a blank text edit file so I can make the font large enough so I can read it.

Can you not zoom in on the PDF when you open it in Preview? Just click on the spyglass with the "+" in it.

If it's not locked by a password, but locked to avoid making changes you might need Adobe Acrobat Pro to make any meaningful changes.
