How do I repare in Panther? A friend of mine said it was a good idea to repare them once a month or so, and well, I'm on like month 3 at least with no maintanance(sp?) and so far no problems.
But I would like to know what would be some good things to do to keep my PB "fresh" so to speak. Like in windows you defrag, etc What should I do with my PB?
Thanx for any tips or anything :)

I am using Jaguar and I repair permission only after i install software. I don't think you need to repair permissions once a month. I would say that is over kill. Since you are not having any problems, I would not do anything.

Someone with Panther, maybe able to give you more information.

you repair permissions by going to

Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility

select the drive and click repair permissions

This is something I do about every 2 months or when things just start going screwy.

Reboot the computer
Hold apple key + S to boot into single user mode
it will load with a terminal like looking screen
type this in
/sbin/fsck -y
Hit enter. Its a more powerful sort of disk permission thing but it fixes more things (i havent done it in a while so i forget exactly the things it fixes)
When its done it will say whether its all OK or fixed something.
if it fixed something run the code again to make sure its all clean
type reboot and hit enter when done

As far as defragging, OS X's filesystem generally takes care of that on the fly. Any time my computer starts slowing down, a restart cures it.

Ok, thats what I thought. I wish my PC ran as nice as my PB..
The only technical problem I have ever had was my cracked screen right after I got it, with my PC's its always something, going wrong, or screwing up.
