Hi, all - I have been lurking about for a couple of months but now need a question answered.

I need to record a meeting, and post it online for others to listen to. I thought it would be simple - take my MacBookPro, open up Audacious, and record away. Well, I was able to practice recording on Audacious, but while the practice sound quality here at home is ok, I worry about sound quality in a meeting-room atmosphere (only using an onboard mic, not external). Furthermore, I can't convert it to mp3 using Lame because I can't get Audacious to find the file it needs in Lame.

My question is this - should I just give up on the idea of using the MBP and instead try to wrestle my daughter's ipod away from her for the evening (I will have to buy a microphone for it), or keep plugging away with my MBP? I haven't even begun to think about how to get the audio off the ipod if I decide to use it, but I imagine I'll run into the same problems there as I do with the MBP converting to mp3.

Any advice or pointers are most welcome. I need this for this evening.

Many thanks,
Laurie

since when can iPods record?

If you're trying to do this, it would be best accomplished with a more sensitive mic with a better sound quality.

ive used an itrip to record lectures by my professors before in a pretty good size room, and the quality wasnt to bad. the newer style ipods, however arent compatible with the itrips.

i would recommend using a USB microphone with a stand in the middle of the meeting area, etc. you are gonna get a better sounding recording, and these can be picked up for under $100. garageband should work nicely, and should be on your MBP.
