I bought the following in 2013:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Macintosh HD
Intel Iris 1536 MB.

Can I install additional memory and a SSD drive and how large?

The RAM is on the logicboard, so you cannot upgrade that.

The SSD isn't on the logicboard, but rather a separate stick that can be upgraded by visiting OWC. You can go up to 2TB, and you follow the videos on there to see how to do the upgrade.

8GB of 1600Ghz DDR3 RAM is plenty for day to day use. A larger SSD will make it noticeably faster plus it is still compatible with the current and next macOS.
