What backup password? You mean the backups created by iTunes when you connect your iPhone?

Not aware of any separate password when itunes creates a backup from the iPhone. Unless it's using your iTunes password. If you don't know your iTunes log in - ???

I've never heard of an iTunes backup-specific password before either. If it's the password to your Apple ID just request a new one to be sent to your email (there should be a 'Forgot your password' button somewhere).

Unless it's the 4-digit PIN you can set for each time you unlock the phone, but I don't see how you wouldn't have that if you use the phone in a regular basis.

@bobtomay

Hi. M facing exactly the similar problem.i upgraded from 3G to 4G i want to restore my 4G with that of 3G but can't do it. As i have selected the encryted option way back and i have no clue what the password is.. After digging in a lot of forum's i learned that we cannot decrypt it. But my Question now is IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN ERASE THE DATA COMPLETELY FROM 3G AND TAKE A BACK UP WITHOUT THE ENCRYPTION. i tried to install i tunes on a diff PC and access my 3g phone to uncheck encrption option but THAT DID NOT WORK.:-(

ANY SUGGESTION OR IDEAS HOW CAN I GET RID OF THIS SELECTION OF ENCRYPTION ON MY 3G M OK WITH LOOSING THE CURRENT DATA COZ I DONT HAVE A CHOICE.. BUT ATLEAST FOR FUTURE USE CAN I DO THIS.? WILL RESTORING MY 3G HELPS.?

Don't personally have a clue. Have never used the encryption option as there is nothing really on my phone that's not on my computer.

If you can't unselect the encryption option on the computer you've been syncing it to without that password, I'd say you're pretty much hosed.

You could get a 3rd party app like Phoneview and move the data to your hard drive then try moving it to the iPhone 4 that way. Can't say if it will work, but looks to be a good option and it has a free trial period.

hiya...! it worked..!!

i could not crack the password or the encryption but i could get the job done.
by some random trail and error methos i am not sure if its gonna help you guys but her is how i got it done.

1) sync my 3G phone contacts notes and calender alerts to outlook(SAFERSIDE0
2) sync my 4g to the outlook and also apps and music etc..(SAFER SIDE)
3) now the only left over was messages and call logs ( that i can risk)
4) down load software iphone backup extractor and extract the backup
5) connect 3g to itunes and its altogether a new phone now DESELECT ENCRYTION and restore the phone with a the extracted backup.
6) Now take a full back up of 3G and restore it with 4g and that's it jobs done.

IN MY CASE I HAD TWO IPHONES IF YOU JUST HAVE ONE THEN EXTRACT THE ENTIRE backup, restore the phone, give it a new name, deselect encryption and restoreit with extracted back up Jobs done..!!

any clarification i am ready to help you
you can reach me on tkashyap88 at gmail

All the best guys..!!

Cheers
Kashyap..
