I have a 2017 MacBook that has usb 3.1 gen 1 output that goes to a usb4/thunderbolt 4 Caldigit Element hub. It then goes to two monitors. One has DisplayPort and HDMI. The other has HDMI and VGA. It was originally working on a usb 3 hub, but I needed more ports and Caldigit says their hub is backwards compatible. What am I missing and what can I do? Thanks for any help!

It is not displaying on the two external monitors when using the usb4 hub. It will only display on one external monitor in this configuration. It will switch which one it uses if I unplug and plug in the monitors so I don't think it is a monitor issue. This configuration use to work when I was using a USB 3 hub.

can I ask if there is anyway you can use the usb 3 hub for the monitors and connect the new hub in to that ? for the extra ports ?

I'll probably do something similar to that if there isn't another solution. I have two desks so I'm using the other hub at that desk.

They are both on HDMI but I have also tried HDMI and display port and neither configuration works. It seems to work fine when using a windows computer.

ok that leads me to think that maybe the dock isn't supported on Mac ?

Yeah I'm thinking it may have something to do with that. I was hoping there may be a software solution.

have you looked on the manufacturer website and seen if they have any software for it ?
