I just dropped my macbook from the kitchen counter. When I try to turn it on the screen flashes and I hear the HD starting but then nothing happens. What next? I'm new to apple and don't know any tips or tricks to troubleshoot. Should I open it up and inspect the HD? There is a small crack in the plastic on the right vent in the back but other than that, no visible damage.

take it to the apple store, they will tell you what needs replacing, then go online and buy the parts yourself

I can hear the HD start spinning and the screen flashes briefly but then nothing happens and the screen stays blank, could this be the HD?
