Hi everyone,

is it possible for someone to take a look at the Panic report i'm getting an maybe say what could be or is wrong with my computer...today my computer shut down saying that there was a problem and that it needed to restart...after restarting i got this panic report. What worries me is the mentioning of an "Unresponsive processor" (1st line), also somewhere near the end it says:

"panic(cpu 1 caller 0xffffff80183f77b3): "TLB invalidation IPI timeout: " "CPU(s) failed to respond to interrupts, unresponsive CPU bitmap: 0x404, NMIPI acks: orig: 0x0, now: 0x2"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2782.40.9/osfmk/x86_64/pmap.c:2480

All this is Chinese to me (no offence) but does this mean i'm having hardware problems or is it probably software related...two months ago i had the same issues but the panic report was different and said nothing about an unresponsive processor...i did a complete fresh re-install and everything worked fine until today.

Also did a hardware test but that said there were no problems detected

All help would be really appreciated"!"

In addition to what harry said try running disk utility to repair permissions and verify your drives - repair any that have issues. If things do not improve try disconnecting all your external devices then try plugging them in one at a time to see who is misbehaving. I had a similar issue on my MacPro and it was a soon to be failing external drive. Your panic log shows a couple of references to fseventsd - this does several things but it does have direct dealings with your disk drives.

Post back and let us know what you find out.

Lisa and Harry,

Thank you so much for replying.
I'm removing Little snitch as we speak.

I

Also i would like to mention that it only has happened two times that i got a panic report, first time was about 2 months ago, second time was today...after the panic report i restarted my computer and it has been running since without a panic report. I can't seem to reproduce another Kernel panic (removing devices and plunging them back in....turning external drives on/off...etc.

@Lisa: interesting that you mention the disk drive...at the moment of the panic report i was transferring files from my external drive to my time capsule (wireless)...i was transferring lots of folders at once...could the external drive be the problem? just to test i'm transferring files again with this drive but no panic reports yet...

I also Checked the drive with using disk utility but it says "the volume lacie MAC appears to be OK"

Again, thanks so much for helping out...really sucks to be honest, i saved and worked my *** off to buy this new mac pro just a few months ago (computer is only 9 months old) and i would really be dissapointed to already having to bring it in for repair.

forgot to mention that i also contacted Apple but the only thing they could tell me is to do a hardware test (this came back saying there were no issues found)...then he said that since it is the second time i'm having kernel panics that it is probably a hardware problem and that they need to repair it..this would take between 2-3 weeks...it was up to me to decide on what to do...what would you fine people recommend...bring it in or wait it out a little longer?

might upgrading to El cap solve the problem (i'm kind of hesitant to upgrade because of the negative comments about el cap's stabillity)

Whether or not you upgrade to ElCap, be assured that for most of us ElCap is rock solid and stable. I don't know where you heard the negative comments, but with ANYTHING new, there will be folks who complain, rightly or not, about it.

I was reading mostly negative comments in the App store where people strongly advised against installing...it would slow the computer down, problems with mail...wifi..etc.

As you probably could tell i'm not really a computer specialist, i just use the machine for my work so i really know "very" little about the technical part...therefore i often play it safe and usually let myself be influenced by the stuff i read...:Blushing:

Every Mac OS X version ever released has had negative comments posted about it. The skill is doing enough internet research (and asking questions on internet forums like Mac-Forums) to find out the "real deal". It's also important to make sure the comments are related to the latest release of El Capitan. I think that there were some issues with the initial version 10.11.0. But I think that most major issues have been resolved with 10.11.1.

Just out of curiosity (and i'm absolutely not trying to be a smart *** here) are there actually people whom can - by looking at a panic report - say "this" is the problem and nothing else..reason i'm asking is that it kind of comes across as a guessing game - could be this, could be that. ..isn't the purpose of a panic report to actually say what's wrong? what good is a panic report if no one can decipher it?...i'm assuming that "if" i should decide to take my computer in for a check up and present them the panic report that i would not really get a clear unwires on what's wrong with the machine...correct?

Again i'm not saying this to be a smart *****, i really do appreciate all the help and tips you lady's and gents give "allot", it kind of eases my mind a bit thinking there's still hope that it's not a hardware problem with the computer itsself...guess i'd be ok with a 3rd party hardware problem like external drives etc.

Panic report interpretation is a mix of recognizing potential troublesome programs and guessing what the process that was running at the time, might be linked to that could be the problem. There is also some magic and guessing involved too. ;)

Seriously, the process that is running at the time of the report may have been the culprit - or not. It just hits an issue and dumps what is currently in memory at the time of the hang up.

BTW: You mentioned something about Time Machine. I will say TM is VERY picky about it's back up drive. I would suggest running disk repair on that drive - it can't hurt.

Hey Lisa,

I don't use Time Machine to back up my files, i always do this manually by dragging the files to my external back-up drive, in this case i was backing up files from my Lacie external drive to my Airport Time Capsule that i also use as a back up drive...i tried to verify my Airport Time Capsule with disk utility but it doesn't show up in disk utility...i'm assuming that the reason why it doesn't show up is because it is not directly connected to my computer...

As Lisa said, the challenge with Panic Reports is that it reports on the panic itself, and the state of the machine at the panic. It does NOT point directly to the cause of the panic, which may have rippled down from some software fault, or from a hardware problem (mostly hardware, BTW). So when we see the panic report and see that something non-apple has been loaded, that becomes the first software candidate. If the fault is shown in the GPU and the machine is known to have GPU issues, then that becomes the likely target. It's a bit like reassembling an airplane after a crash...the engine quit, which was the direct cause of the ultimate crash, but what caused the engine to quit? It takes a lot of digging to get to the triggering event, and the panic report only gives a clue where to start that digging.

Thank you for replying.

I removed Little snitch and checked all HD's using disc utility...i also used Apple diagnostics but no problems found.

I had the computer running all night to see if the problem would occur again but nothing...

Are you folks all leaning more towards a software related problem, external hardware problem or a hardware problem with the computer itself?

The person i spoke to from Apple said i could always make an appointment with the genius bar, he said that they could plug the computer in to some device that would completely check the hardware and if there was a hardware problem they could easily detect it that way...is this in fact true? Reasson i ask is the nearest Apple store (there is only one in the country where i live) is a 2 hour drive...would suck to make an appointment, drive 2 hours and 2 hours back just to hear that they do some simple tests like a reset...etc stuff i could have done at home.

**Update**

I was transferring files from my external hard drive to my airport time capsule again same as yesterday..bunch of folders at once and again i get the message that the computer needs to shut down because of a problem...don't know if it's a coincidence that i was doing the same thing as yesterday or not.

The Panic report is different than the one i posted previously....can someone take a look at this and see if this one maybe clears some stuff up.
I removed Little snitch yesterday so that wasn't the problem or cause of the panic report i had from yesterday....anyway here goes the new panic report.

Well it is obviously an issue with Finder and since you were transferring files - I would say that would be the problem. There is an issue between your Time Capsule and transferring files from another external. I believe you have said you have transferred files to other external drives. If that is true then I would say there is a problem with the Time Capsule and potentially the external drive.

You can run disk repair on the Time Capsule and see if that helps. My next suggestion would be if you make a trip to the Genius Bar, take the Time Capsule with you and maybe even the external drive. I think there lies your problem.

Hi Lisa,

i'd like to thank you and everybody else for all the help!

I'm kind of reliefed that it's probably going to be related to external 3rd party hardware and that my macPro is probably ok. weird thing however is that for now i'm transferring files again to my time capsule for the last 3 hours and no restarts or panic reports...

I tried looking up on how to do a disk repair on my time capsule but can't find it, the time capsule doesn't show up in disk utility, does it need to be directly connected to the computer for the time capsule to show up? Also tried looking in the Airport utility app located in my utilities folder but there is no option to do a disk repair. only erase disk or archive disk.

Good question. I also have a Time Capsule…and like you mentioned…it does not show up in Disk Utility. And using the Airport Utility doesn't seem to offer a solution either.

So I looked things up…and came across this Apple document:
