Help with Mail

I searched everywhere I could but couldnt find what I needed. I am trying to set up my gmail account through mail and when i put "pop.gmail.com" into incoming mail server, my username with the "@gmail.com"(and tried without), and put in my password i get an error that says "Trying to log into the POP server “pop.gmail.com” has failed."

Any ideas/help?

I was actually having the same problem with my gmail and yahoo account, how do you do it?

Gmail has a help function which tells you how to set up POP access with Apple Mail. I've just used it (giddy new mac owner) and it is a simple process

Help with Mail Problem

I have been using Gmail with the mail app for about a month now, however today my inbox will not sync with gmail. i get a error message "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "POP Account" or try again.The server error encountered was: The server "pop.gmail.com" cannot be contacted on port 995". Anyone know a way to fix this? Thanks!

I have a question. how do you sync gmail into mail.app? for example, if i read through mail.app, i want it to show that i have read it in gmail. or if i delete in mail.app, it will delete in gmail.
Also, i don't have a .mac account.
any help would be great.

gmail is POP mail, so it can't sync the way an IMAP account can (like .mac, for instance). There are limited controls with downloading and deleting, but those are on the gmail side. Search help at gmail.

Gmail now has IMAP too... So just set up the IMAP and you'll be set.
