It's beginning to sound like the disks you were using were the wrong disks and that's why we couldn't seem to get anywhere.

As I said previously, it might be worth while to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $29.99 and see if you can boot and install with it. You can always use the Snow Leopard retail copy to upgrade the desktop. That way it wouldn't be a waste and may save you the trouble of going to the Apple store.

Regards.

Turns out I overlooked the blatant "Macbook" text on the install CDs I have, turns out they definitely came with it. They are still ejecting, even though the Ubuntu Linux disc I put in was recognized. I'm going to schedule a Genius Bar estimate for this week and just try to get it done right with no guesswork. I'll post back when I get the verdict. If it turns out to be simply an OS issue (which I'm hoping...), I will be purchasing Snow Leopard to upgrade both. Thanks for the help throughout the thread.

OK. Good luck with the genius visit. Hopefully it will be something that doesn't cost too much to resolve. Let us know how it went.

Hi, supascoop, what was the verdict?
I have the same issue with my G5 tower as of this morning.
On mine, the 'Apple' icon and timer lasts for about 2 minutes then turns into the Circle Slash 'anti' icon followed by the fans increasing speed and volume.

I'll look around the forums today.

Thanks for looking and any help that you might provide.

Circle / Slash during start up

This is what I see:

15seconds_.jpg

15 seconds after turning on computer. Looks normal so-far...

Then ...

2minutes_later.jpg

... this. After 2 minutes

thanks again for looking
