It's beginning to sound like the disks you were using were the wrong disks and that's why we couldn't seem to get anywhere.
As I said previously, it might be worth while to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $29.99 and see if you can boot and install with it. You can always use the Snow Leopard retail copy to upgrade the desktop. That way it wouldn't be a waste and may save you the trouble of going to the Apple store.
