Before you give them your money... Hi I've had similair problems. I have an intel iMac from the same period running Snow Leopard. There 2 types of 'crashes' i experience. Either a total 'freeze' of the OS (If a youtube movie was playing i noticed it keeps playing) The other crash is where it seems like my screen just turns black , The OS keeps responding, for example 'shift-alt-Q' did log me out. I also noticed that the machine seems to be making more noise than before, as if it is working really hard. Most likely, theres dust clogging up the air supply to the vents (its a small hole just below your power plug). If that hole is clogged your machine will get too hot and your screen will auto shut off. So i'd say unplug the iMac , and vacuum any hole you find. Correction & Update: not below but ABOVE your power plug is the airfilter , very well hidden behind the iMac's stand... Mine was very dusty, i cleaned it and my iMac stopped sounding like it it was sufficating! I'd say thats a good sign.... Also theres a neat widget that keeps track of your fans and temperatures you might wanna check out: iStat Pro, a Dashboard Widget by iSlayer update: found another fan app that manages the fans as well: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23049/smcfancontrol I'm gonna do the same and lets hope we save ourselves 400 bucks:P good luck z3r0
