HELP! Bing Took Over Google!

Hello guys,

I just did an update for my girlfriend's Macbook to 10.6.3, and now her default search engines in both FireFox and Safari is BING instead of Google!

I can change it to something else within preferences, but then I cannot change it to Google. Every time I do, it will default to Bing for some reason.

HELP.

Seriously, does she by chance have Glims installed? If she does, there's a separate preference for the search engine(s) to be used and it will override what's listed in Safari. Make sure the "Google" tab is checked.

Other than that, unless she has some other plug in loaded, it should stay on Google. Check to see what other Safari and especially Firefox plug ins are loaded.

Picking up on this thread, even though it's over three years old, Bing has an unwelcome and sneaky way of imposing itself into browsers Safari and Firefox. I've managed to boot it out of Safari via Preferences, and deleting a bunch of uninvited cookies, but not so with FFox. Opening a new Tab in FFox produces a search field, and in the top right corner of the tab window, it states Results by Bing.

No Glims on my Mac. What puzzles me is that this Bing behaviour has only just started, whereas it's been installed on my Mac Mini for weeks now.

I'd like to get rid of Bing altogether, but a Finder search does not reveal where it is hiding. Help please.

Not sure if this Kim Komando hint on how to remove BING will help, but give it a try:

With FF, you just click on the down arrow in the search bar, select 'Manage Search Engines...'

Highlight Bing and select remove.
