Hard Drive help please...

I have just bought a 120G Freecom my docs seem to transfer across Ok although it doesn't like folders. When I transer pix as jpegs though from iphoto although i can see the icon i cant open it and see the photo!

Any thoughts?

What format is the disk in, have you considered reformatting it to HFS mac format

for your reply. I don't really know what the format is. It's probably written on the box somewhere in a forma that i can't identify.
its a "mobile drive classic" 2.5"/USB 2.0 Win & Mac.
I bought it as it seemed Mac compatible!

Select the drive and right click. Select get info, the disk format will show in the info box

Unless you plan on using it on a PC I would reformat it to mac format HFS+ using Disk Utility

From your G4 > Utilities use Disk Utility. Select the name of your 120 Gb disk and then click Erase, and select the HFS format. BE AWARE that Erasing (formatting) the disk will remove everything you've put on it so far, but it reads like that doesn't matter too much at this early stage.

For coming in to help. OK got the Disk Utilty do i erase and then see the HFS formatiing option?

See attachment, which is a screenshot of Disk Utility from my eMac looking at my external hard drive. See Volume Format? I have it set to Mac OS Extended, which is HFS. I did not need to have it Journaled (one of the options) because I don't use it as a boot disk. The name you give your external hard drive is entirely up to you.

Once you've got those two settings right, click Erase. Whatever you do, don't interrupt the process, even if it seems to be taking a long time. My guess is that a 120 Gb drive will take only a short time to be formatted.

Once it's finished, you should see the drive mount to your computer desktop with the name you chose. Then you can start putting your chosen files on to it simply with drag-and-drop.
