Handbrake problem?

Guys and gals,

I've been using Handbrake for about 3 months now and generally like it...real easy to use. But how come sometimes when I go to rip a DVD (eg. Talladega Nights, Sony) it will just convert the first minute or so. Other times it does all the chapters no problem, I can throw it into iTunes and then on to my iPod.

I've checked my Handbrake settings but can't come up with anything. Am I missing something? This has happened on a few DVD's. Thanks.

I've found that happens to me sometimes. I have found that a way to get around it is to set handbrake to start ripping at chapter 2 (completely skipping chapter 1, as I believe the transition from chapter 1 to 2 has some sort of copy protection). Good luck.

Yep....Sony has copy protection on almost all of their DVDs. For Sony DVD's, and assuming you own the DVD and are backing it up for personal protection against DVD damage, I would suggest trying Mac the Ripper (free). If it will rip the whole DVD, then you can use Handbrake on the File created by Mac The Ripper to compress it.

Yep just backing up. I do have MtR but I gotta admit I don't understand that program. It spits out folders and files when its done but I don't know what to do with them? They won't play. That's the reason I started using Handbrake because it just ripped it (when it worked) to a mpeg4.

So how do you take what MtR gives you and compress it with Handbrake. And again, sorry for all the noobness.

Just open mac the ripper, let it rip the DVD...then open handbrake when it's donw, without the physical DVD in the drive. Now at the top of handbrake there should be a browse option that comes up. Browse to where the Video_TS folder is, and select that folder. Now do the same thing with Handbrake that you do with a DVD to rip it.
