Holy Jebus.

IBM claims title of world's fastest graphene transistor -- Engadget

I would have figured that we'd leave silicon and make a direct jump to optical or quantum computing... I like that we have a next step option that is ridiculously cool!

100GHz right now, with the potential to unlock THz! YEA BABY!

Being old is going to be amazing, maybe one day I'll get my holodeck.

How long before they actually start adopting this new technology?

Yikes! THz?!!

Uh let's see here. You'd get:

-a ton of stuff done FAST..at the same time no doubt. And watch YouTube pretty smoothly. :D

Viewing web pages would be like turning the pages in a book. It's there- instantly.
Doing simulations would be like the real thing. Heck real time would be reallllly fast. Lightning speed.
And Apple might have a future over PC's again. Though that's more like a wish.

-a ton of HEAT and ENERGY consumption as well.

And we're not even close to 4.25 GHz yet. (Well maybe.)

So weigh your options you know? Plus, Mac OS X Snow Leopard (and subsequent successors after it) can theoretically handle 16 exabytes of RAM. Yowzers.

Unless the GPU scales up to meet the 100ghz CPU, well the CPU on it's own would be linited in what it can do. But what it can do, all that encoding and 3D/video/image rendering could be done is seconda and not hours/days anymore. That's be something. it's make video and inage creating so much quicker. And I think that' be so so useful.

When we finally find something with bus speeds that would make that useful (we can't even use our full potential of 2GHz machines yet), that is going to lead to real life holodecks. I demand it. :)

Beam me up Scotty (though never said in any Star Trek movie/episode).
Really with this potential holodecks as said above and Star Trek touch screen command centres might just be a possibility.

The touch screens are already possible... now maybe we can get 3D multitouch interfaces =-O
