After reading some recent threads I got the itch and reinstalled Ubuntu on my Gateway AMD 64 Laptop. Currently running vs 8.0 but plan on updating to vs 10.

EDIT: vs 10.04 upgrade downloading . . . 30 minutes left

Well 10.04 crashed and burned, so I downloaded the ISO on my Mac Mini and burned a DvD. Just installed it side-by-side with 8.04 and so far everything looks good.

Posting this from my Gateway Laptop running Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS

You're a few versions behind still. ;)

Unless you need long term support, you might want to upgrade to 11.04. In fact, if you wait three days, you can get 11.10.

Right now I'm covered with pavement rashes. Encountered some aggressive dogs while running and didn't watch my feet well enough. Ran off the side of the pavement and twisted my ankle. :(

I carry a small baseball bat that works fine; in this case I drifted off track and stepped on the edge of the pavement, twisting my ankle badly in the process.

Have a Broadcom wifi card which uses proprietary drivers, but I used an Ethernet cable to my router and Hardware manager pulled in the correct drivers for me.

Broadcom wifi cards are fairly well supported, especially if you have a bcm43xx series card. See here for more info.

That's my card series. So far, every Ubuntu vs past 7.0 has gotten the drivers for me when asked. Before that I had to get them myself and use FWcutter.

I remember those days. My old notebook had a bcm43..something and the fwcutter worked like a charm.

The nice thing about using VMs now though is that I don't have to worry about WiFi support since the NIC support is handled by OS X.

Unfortunately this is on a Gateway Laptop so no OS X, and I just dumped Windows off of it for the third time.
